Marc is pretty cool and if you have the chance to meet up you should! Until then, the following is slightly easier.

Open the Map application, go to the menu, choose Maps, go to the Available maps tab, click Refresh and then select the ones you want and click Download. In the Maps in Device tab you can select the map you want to use.

How do you get those extra maps? Or do I need to track down this Marc Blumenfrucht individual and extract the information directly? :)

I first used Maemo Mapper since my device only came with the maps of Italy and I just moved to Amsterdam. Maemo Mapper has some nice functionality, but you have to download the maps, so it's only an alternative if you are always connected.

After Marc Blumenfrucht showed me how to get more maps I've only used the Wayfinder application that comes with the N810. The maps for Benelux, Germany and Nordic countries were pretty good, but in Estonia I noticed that quite a few roads were missing. All in all, it's extremely useful though, for hitchhiking, ending up in unexpected places or looking for your host's address.

I left my GPS receiver in a taxi in Sydney. I remembered seconds later, but the taxi had gone, and it wasn't to be seen again. On the upside, I replaced it, for $70, with a much smaller unit which works like a charm. :)

What mapping software do you use for the N810? I haven't started to use the maps yet, but I would like to.
