wik2dict

wik2dict is a tool I wrote in Python. It converts MediaWiki SQL dumps into the DICT format.

I'm not actively maintaining this anymore, Aard Dictionary seems the way to go.

Hitchwiki everywhere

"Aard Dictionary is a multiplatform dictionary and offline Wikipedia reader. It runs on desktop computers, notebooks and netbooks with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X as well as Nokia Internet Tablets (N800 and N810) and anywhere Python, PyGTK and ICU are available.

More to follow: wikis without nofollow

I've come to realize that it's silly that most wikis are using nofollow by default. In fact, it seems that the majority of the most visited websites are not contributing to a healthy way for spreading pagerank. Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Youtube, Wikipedia and Delicious are all adding rel="nofollow" to links added by their users.

Underscores to dashes in MediaWiki (not yet)

It's clear that dashes (-) are better than underscores (_) for search engine optimization. So people have looked for ways to make MediaWiki use -. Wikihow is one of the few MediaWiki sites that behaves this way, but unfortunately even they don't seem to be running an extension for this. I tried my luck at changing the MediaWiki core (Title.php) but I'll leave this for now.

Logos for wikis

I'd like to see some logos for the following wikis: Healthywiki, Visawiki and Wikifurniture. Let me know if you think you can make something nice, or even better, you can directly upload it to the wiki. And yeah, anything is better than nothing at all.

My wikis - a couple of new ones and a tiny reflection

So yeah, I tend to start wikis all the time.  The past months have been no exception.  Marc had been talking a lot about "Cultwiki" (or at least about cults in various forms) so while in Israel I took a little moment and set up Cultwiki, which so far almost hasn't seen many edits - I'm not really that interested in cults myself  - or well, to think about why a specific group I like or don't like is a cult.  But maybe you are just as interested as Marc?  I also set up -->

International Cost of Living Index Wiki - Blocked Again?

Through Hitchwiki.org I found wikicostofliving.org. From the Main Page: "Wiki Cost of Living is the world´s most up-to-date international price comparison index thanks to people like you. You can edit any page right now." So cool, I created an account, made an edit.

Spammed for 20-12

Since my online time was slightly less than normal yesterday - free Indian trash food and clothing at Salon Mazal, dinner at a friend's place, Romanian/Israeli theater and a lot of walking through this eclecticity - I only noticed today that my friends had created the craziest birthday present ever: SpamWiki. Thank you, all you crazies!
